Origins and Purpose of the Professional Governance Act

• The Professional Governance Act is legislation for several self-regulating professions in British Columbia.  This recording provides an introductory overview of why the Professional Governance Act was created and what the key changes are resulting from the legislation.

Practice rights under the Professional Governance Act

• To practice certain professions, a person must have a licence from a regulatory body responsible for overseeing the profession.  Under the Professional Governance Act, this is called “reserved practice.”  This recording explains how requirements to be licenced to practice a profession can help protect public and environmental health and safety.  It also provides an introductory overview of the Professional Governance Act’s approach to defining areas of professional practice, including how activities reserved only for licensed professionals are defined.
