Regulatory Body Performance Review Report Published
The Office of the Superintendent of Professional Governance has released our performance review report on how the five regulatory bodies we oversee are meeting selected standards in the OSPG’s Standards of Good Regulation. The standards reviewed in the report for each regulatory body are:
Regulatory Body: Standard Reviewed
- Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC): Standards of Competence, Standards of Professional and Ethical Conduct, and Practice Guidelines
- British Columbia Institute of Agrologists (BCIA): Standards of Competence, Standards of Professional and Ethical Conduct, and Practice Guidelines
- College of Applied Biologists (CAB): Standards of Competence, Standards of Professional and Ethical Conduct, and Practice Guidelines
- Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC): Complaints and Investigations
- Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC): Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The performance review found that, since the initial familiarization review in 2020/2021, the regulatory bodies have been working to improve operations to better meet the identified standards, enhance governance of registrants, and further reflect their commitment to public safety. Some of the findings include:
- The results of the performance review show progress by all regulatory bodies to improve their performance against the reviewed standards, including implementing systems for tracking and continuous improvement.
- ASTTBC continues to focus on strengthening practice guidance for registrants.
- BCIA and CAB have focused on strengthening competency standards and putting into place operational frameworks for the implementation of reserved practice.
- FPBC has implemented several measures over the past decade that have resulted in a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive profession of forest professionals in BC.
- EGBC has a mature complaints and investigation process built on a strong foundation of policies, training, and procedural fairness. In recognition of timeline delays, EGBC has committed to improve timeliness where possible by increasing capacity, enhancing tracking systems, and reviewing/revising policies.
